Peanut Butter-M&M Blonde Brownies

After 3 parades in the past 4 weeks, I can’t believe my eyes. My five year old has turned her back on chocolate.

She snubbed M&Ms at the frozen yogurt bar. She knowingly left Snickers on the curb at the parades. She turned up her nose at a chocolate cupcake.

Seriously? Who is this girl? Doesn’t she know what’s good?!

Lord knows we don’t need anymore sugar in this house. But if we’re going to indulge, we’re going to do it right! No more Dum Dum suckers. No more pink, purple or blue tootsie rolls. No more Laffy Taffy.

It’s time to get this girl back on track. It’s time to re-introduce her to the wonderful things in life. Like chocolate. And peanut butter. And M&Ms. It’s time for an intervention and I know just the trick: Peanut Butter-M&M Blonde Brownies!

Blonde Brownies

I used my mom’s Blonde Brownie recipe as the base and pulled out all the stops by adding peanut butter, M&Ms and peanut butter chips. The result is a pan of pure wonderfulness. The edges are slightly chewy with a squishy soft, melt-in-your mouth center. I dare her (and you) to eat just one.

The brownies did the trick. My chocolate lover is back. Mission accomplished. Now if I could just get her to eat her broccoli …

Peanut Butter-M&M Blonde Brownies

  • Servings: 9-12
  • Time: 30 minutes
  • Print

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup Reese’s peanut butter chips
  • 1/4 cup plain M&M’s

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Spray an 8-by-8 inch baking pan with baking spray. Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Stir in brown sugar and remove from heat. Cool for a few minutes before adding the egg so you don’t scramble it.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla and whisk until smooth. Add the peanut butter and stir until smooth.
  5. Add the flour mix a little at a time and stir until just combined.
  6. Spread mixture in prepared pan. Sprinkle peanut butter chips, chocolate chips and M&Ms over the top and press lightly into the batter.
  7. Bake for about 25 minutes or until the top is set. A toothpick inserted in the center of the pan should come out without wet batter on it.

**Recipe can be doubled for a 9-by-13 inch pan.**
