Apple Orchard Cider Slush

Apple Cider SlushFall is officially here. We made our annual trek to the local apple orchard and pumpkin patch. The first time we went a couple of years ago, I couldn’t believe we were paying money to visit a farm when we have one of our own. I quickly realized this isn’t just any old farm. It’s waaaayyyyyy more fun.

Even corn at this farm is more fun … especially when you get to dive into it! It took all my self control not to jump right in with the kiddos.

Apple Orchard FunAnd John Deere tractors are waaaayyyyy more fun when you get to race around the track with Dad!

Apple Orchard FunI got the kids to take a break from the fun for a split second so I could get a quick photo. Look at those smiles and those cheeks. Don’t you just wanna reach out and pinch ’em!

Apple Orchard KidsSelfishly, I wanted to visit the apple orchard for the apple cider and — even better — the apple cider slushies they serve. We must have hit it too early in the season because they had plenty of apples, but no cider or slushies in sight. That left me with only one option. I picked up some Honeycrisp apples and headed home to make them myself. And here, my friends, you can make them too.

Apple Cider Slush Recipe

  • 3 cups ice cubes
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1 large Honeycrisp apple, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • cinnamon sticks for garnish (optional)

Please first 6 ingredients in blender and process until it makes a slushy consistency. Divide mixture among 5-6 glasses. Garnish with cinnamon sticks.

**This version was a little too doctored up for my little kids, so I also made them a plain version with 2 cups of apple cider and 2 cups of ice cubes processed in the blender.**

oh Yummm! We rotate the orchards we visit every year. In 2012 it was Center Grove and we got a cider slush! So good! Thanks for the recipe to make them at home!!
